MiSight 1 day lenses

Do you have myopia (nearsightedness)? In a typical eye, light focuses on the retina for a sharp and clear image. In a myopic eye, the eyeball grows too long. This means light focuses in front of the retina making distance vision blurry. As your child grows, their eyes continue to grow meaning their myopia is likely to worsen. This can have significant impact on their everyday life and possibly lead to future eye health problems.

What you should know about nearsightedness:

Myopia usually starts around 8-12 years old and continues to get progressively worse until the child stops growing. The younger a child is when they first become nearsighted, the worse their prescription is likely to become. Most children who become nearsighted at a young age are often totally reliant on glasses to see by the time they have stopped growing.

Being reliant on glasses to see well leads to greater challenges in many aspects of everyday life – especially when growing up. Later in life, nearsightedness can lead to eye heath and vision issues; the more nearsighted you are, the greater these risks become.¹ It’s really important to look at solutions to slow down the speed at which nearsightedness progresses.

Do you know the impact myopia has on the world?

More than 50% of the global population will develop myopia by 2050²

What you can do about nearsightedness (Myopia):

Catching and treating myopia early can slow its progression, reducing the severity of myopia and in turn reducing the associated risk of developing these more serious eye conditions.²,³ Our Optometrists understand the importance of keeping myopia under control. There are many current treatment options available:

  1. Multifocal Spectacles
  2. Orthokeratology (ortho-K)
  3. Soft Multifocal Contact Lenses
  4. Atropine

Slowing myopia progression can significantly reduce the risk of myopia-related complications and vision loss later in life.

  • High levels of myopia can lead to substantial vision loss due to axial elongaton³
  • Myopia significantly increases the risk of retinal detachment and myopic maculopathy³
  • Even low myopia levels are associated with an increased prevalence of glaucoma and cataracts³

Millions of children across Canada are poised to benefit from a breakthrough therapy that addresses the fast-growing issue of myopia (nearsightedness), which is projected to negatively affect more than 50 percent of the world’s population by 20502.

CooperVision MiSight® 1 day contact lenses are now available for fitting by our Eye Care Professionals. It is the world’s first one-day soft contact lens clinically proven to substantially slow the progression of myopia in children. They look and feel like ordinary one day soft contact lenses, but they have a very different optical design called ActivControl™ Technology. Our Optometrists have been trained and educated to offer this unique contact lens solution.

MiSight 1 day contact lenses were studied over three years in children as young as age eight

MiSight® 1 day has been shown to reduce myopia progression by more than half versus a single-vision one-day lens1,4. Over three years, children wearing MiSight® 1 day had 59 percent less myopia progression and 52 percent less axial elongation on average than those wearing a single-vision one-day lens1. The innovative contact lens is designed for children who have a myopia prescription from -0.25 to -6.00. Its ActivControl® Technology addresses both axial elongation and refractive error4.

MiSight 1 day contact lenses are child-friendly and fit their active lifestyles

The lens is designed for children’s ease of use and parental peace of mind. In a multi-center study, 100 percent of children who had never worn contact lenses before found MiSight® 1 day easy to remove after one month of wear4. After a single month of wear, 85 percent of children said the lenses were easy to insert4. Children were found to have not changed their daily activities, and their wearing experiences were similar to those of children wearing a single-vision lens1. Children as young as age eight and new to contact lenses reported ease of handling‡. 90% of children said they preferred wearing their MiSight 1 day contact lenses over wearing their spectacles.* ≥ 98% reported seeing well while playing outdoors.* 90% of children reported seeing well while doing schoolwork, reading, watching TV, and playing video games.‡

Children agreed that MiSight 1 day gave them clear vision at a variety of distances during everyday activites. Parents in the same study also had a highly positive response, noting their children could mostly manage their lens wear independently. Prior to dispensing contact lenses, less than half of the parents were extremely at ease with their child wearing contact lenses, but this increased significantly to 79 percent after just one month and remained high through the two-year mark4. After their children had worn MiSight® 1 day contact lenses for three years, 100 percent of parents rated their children “happy” with the overall experience1,5.

*Over a three-year period of studying MiSight® 1 day contact lenses in children 8-15 years; 1 week through 3 year visits. †As reported by parents. After 1 month of wear 100% of the children found the lens easy to remove and 85% of who have never worn contact lenses before find the lenses easy to insert. ‡ From one-week through three-year visits.

Focus Up Close, Far Away and In-Between

Once we reach age 40 to 45, our eyes lose the ability to focus on objects that are up close—especially in low-light situations, such as reading a menu in a restaurant. This condition is called “presbyopia” and it affects everyone.

With Balanced Progressive Technology, CooperVision Biofinity®multifocal contacts allow you to see near and far objects, along with everything in-between—all with the clarity and comfort you deserve. And you’re free to wear these lenses for up to 7 days in a row.

AT A GLANCE

  • Monthly replacement
  • Focus close up, far away and in-between
  • Lenses stay moist and comfortable
  • Naturally wettable so you’re less likely to need additional wetting drops

A Healthier Lens-Wearing Experience

Thanks to our exclusive Aquaform® Technology, Biofinity multifocal lenses allow plenty of oxygen to pass through to your eyes. And their natural wettability won’t rinse off. You’ll enjoy excellent vision with a soft, comfortable lens that’s healthier for your eyes.

If you’re over 40, why pull out eyeglass readers or let traditional bifocal contact lenses slow you down? Biofinity multifocal contacts offer a clear (and comforting) advantage. Ask your eye care professional about Biofinity (pronounced “Bi-OH-fin-itee”).

Balanced Progressive® Technology

An advanced design containing multiple zones of vision correction in both lenses, allowing for clear vision up close, at middle distances, and far away.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia usually occurs beginning at around age 40, when people start having trouble reading small print or seeing their computer screens and smartphones clearly.

Presbyopia cannot be avoided, even if you’ve never had a vision problem before. Presbyopia affects nearly 1.7 billion people worldwide, and that number is expected to grow to 2.1 billion by the year of 2020.

Though presbyopia is a normal change in our eyes as we age, it often is a significant and emotional event because it’s a sign of aging that’s impossible to ignore and difficult to hide.

Presbyopic Symptoms and Signs

When you become presbyopic, you will have trouble reading materials such as books, magazines, menus, labels, and digital devices. Even though you will have some vision up close, presbyopia can cause headaches, eye strain and visual fatigue that makes reading and other near vision tasks less comfortable and more tiring.

What causes Presbyopia?

An age-related process causes presbyopia. It occurs when the natural lens inside your eye gradually thickens and loses its flexibility. These age-related changes occur within the proteins in the lens, making the lens harder and less elastic over time. Age-related changes also take place in the muscle fibers surrounding the lens. With less elasticity, the eye has a harder time focusing up close.

Presbyopia can be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses or even surgery. Visit or ask us about presbyopia and we can provide the best visual solution that solves your needs.

Multifocal contact lenses are designed to provide clear vision at all distances for people experiencing a decline in near vision called presbyopia.

Presbyopia is an age related condition that usually becomes noticeable in our 40s or 50s. Presbyopia affects our accommodation in our eyes, which causes us to not see clearly when reading menus, newspapers, books, smart phones, tablets and other reading materials.

Multifocal contact lenses come in both soft and hard (rigid gas permeable, GP) materials. They are also available as hybrid contact lenses, a combination of a hard and soft contact lens. Some can be worn on a disposable bases, which means you can wear them for a specific time (i.e. two weeks or a month) or even every day. You should always replace your contact lenses with a fresh and new lens to ensure optimal eye health. Ask your eye care professional how to wear and take care of your contact lenses.

How Multifocal Contact Lenses Work

Multifocal contact lenses work in several different ways, depending on the design of the lens. There are two main designs of a multifocal contact lens:

  1. “Alternating vision” (translating) lenses allow your pupil to alternate between the two powers, as your gaze shifts upward and downward.
  2. “Simultaneous vision” lenses require your to be looking through both distance and near powers at the same time. With this design, your eyes are able to select the correct power choice within the lens depending on how close or far you’re trying to see. All multifocal lenses take time to adapt to.Simultaneous vision lenses come in two types: concentric ring designs and aspheric designs.Concentric designs have the distance prescription in the center and is surrounded by rings of near and far power. Near-center versions are also available.Aspheric designs have the near and distance prescriptions in front of the pupil.

Translating design have the near power on the bottom and distance on the top. The bottom edge is flattened to keep the lens from rotating on your eye when you blink.

Concentric Ring Designs:

This design features a prescription in the center and one or more rings of power surrounding it. If there are multiple rings, they alternate between the near and distance prescription. Typically, at least two within your pupil area, but this varies as your pupil expands and contracts due to varying light.

Aspheric Designs:

These multifocal contact lens designs work more like progressive eyeglass lenses, where the different prescriptive powers are blended across the lens. Your visual system must learn to select the proper prescription for the moment because these contact lenses have simultaneous vision. Aspheric designs are most popular and best described as “progressive”.

Are Multifocal Contact Lenses Good for Me?

Multifocal contact lenses gives you the convenience of not having to wear progressive eyeglasses and see comfortably at all distances. New technology has produced more successful and advanced designs. Your Optometrist or eye care professional will determine which design is best for you and have you try on different multifocal contact lenses to ensure you achieve the most optimal vision.

Your eye care professional will consider your pupil size and near prescription to determine which multifocal contact lens is right for you. Your vision can be complicated and depending on your prescription, your eye care professional will conduct techniques such as monovision to achieve the best possible vision.

Visit us to see if your a good candidate for multifocal contact lenses. We will do a comprehensive contact lens fitting and provide free trial lenses to make sure your visual needs are addressed and identify the best multifocal contact lens for you.
